Knights Ferry Recreation Area is located along the gorgeous Stanislaus River in the small community of Knights Ferry. The area is famously beautiful and most well-known for being one of the filming locations for shows like
Little House On The Praire.
The recreation area contains a large park with numerous hiking trails and places to hang out while taking in the scenery. It's a popular destination for families who spend their afternoons picnicking by the river and taking pictures of the breathtaking surroundings.
However, the park's highlight is the massive covered bridge known aptly as the Knights Ferry Covered Bridge. The bridge spans 330 feet over the Stanislaus River, making it the longest covered bridge west of the Mississippi.
This historic bridge is an important part of the town's history. It was built in the 1860s and was heavily trafficked during the California Gold Rush. It was restored in 1989, making it suitable for pedestrians.
