Millions Of Snow Geese Have Been Spotted Taking Flight Over North Dakota, An Extraordinary Sight For Locals
The reports are coming in – people are seeing thousands upon thousands of snow geese headed south for the winter over North Dakota. These massive flocks are mesmerizing to see, and even more magical to hear. Be on the lookout for them in the coming days, and you’ll be in for quite the sight.
These bright white and black snow geese might be a familiar sight to many North Dakotans. The migratory species makes its long trek from up north to the south and vice versa every single year.
This huge migration is great for hunters, and many spend time in North Dakota's fields waiting for the geese. There are both fall and spring seasons for hunting snow geese.
When snow geese are resting, they often stop on fields and in prairie potholes. There are many conservation and waterfowl protection areas in North Dakota where the land is preserved so they still have these resting grounds for their journey.
If you see one of these gigantic swarms, one of the most notable things you can expect to experience is the sound. The sound of them taking off and honking by the millions is something unlike any other.
Many North Dakotans have reported recent sightings of the geese flying overhead. They'll keep heading south to their wintering grounds in the south and in Mexico, and next spring we'll see them headed back up this way in the same spectacular fashion.
