When the temperatures are as high as they have been lately out here in the Peace Garden State, a cool dip into a swimming hole sounds amazing. North Dakota is full of lakes, ponds, and other places to swim that will remind you of the good old days when summer fun consisted of heading out and taking a swim instead of sitting around in the A/C. About halfway in between Dickinson and Bismarck, North Dakota is the Heart Butte Reservoir, otherwise known as Lake Tschida.

The lake itself is perfect for a summer day outing. Swimming, boating, fishing, camping, or simply having a picnic lakeside are all great options. There are 55 miles of shoreline to enjoy and plenty of ways to do it.
