7 Once-In-A-Lifetime Adventures You Can Only Have In North Dakota
North Dakota is full of opportunity for adventures that will satisfy your wanderlust. From the rolling plains and lakes to the deeply carved canyons and rivers, there is a nearly-endless amount of places to explore and discover. When you see the signs that say “North Dakota Legendary,” they mean it. There is no other state quite like ND, and here are some of the best adventures you can have here:

It's no secret that North Dakota has some of the best hunting opportunities ever, and Rolling Plains Adventures near Sterling, North Dakota will make your hunting trip into an absolutely amazing experience. Up in North Dakota's north east corner is what is known as the Rendezvous Region. The forests and hills of this area make it perfect for all kinds of outdoor adventures. Even if you just want to see it, you can take the Rendezvous Region Scenic Backway through places like the Pembina Gorge and Tetrault Woods State Forest. Hiking, canoeing, horseback riding, and more are all popular here, and in the winter there are multiple skiing parks located here, like Frost Fire and Bottineau Winter Park. It's an amazing slice of nature that can relax, amaze, and simply enchant.

On the extreme other side of North Dakota, in the very southwest corner, is the official highest point in the state: White Butte. This rocky outcrop pushes against the sky at 3,506 feet near Amidon, ND. You can hike to the top and see the vast plains surrounding it. There is a historical marker at the summit. There's only one place in North Dakota you can say you've traveled the highest for, and this is it.

Devils Lake attracts fishers, boaters, and just about everyone else all throughout the year. Now that winter is here, the largest natural lake in the state is about to become one of the best ice fishing spots. There are plenty of lodges and guides here to make it easy and fun for everyone, and you can pretty much be assured you will go home with some great catches. People travel from quite a distance just to fish here and it proves itself worthy.

This extensive trail is over 90 miles long and is one of the places that challenges and excites hikers and especially bikers. People from all over the world have traveled to bike this trail, winding through the rugged badlands of the Theodore Roosevelt National Park. It's beautiful and one of the most famous adventures you can have in North Dakota.

This unique lake has a series of islands in it that form the perfect nesting grounds for thousands and thousands of white pelicans each year. Not only is the land beautiful, these birds make quite a spectacle. And there are many other types of unique birds that make this place their refuge to raise their young. It's like a natural aviary, and it is breathtaking to see. You can see it up close for yourself by getting a Chase Lake Pass, or you can hike some of the public trails that surround the lake. There is no other place quite like it!

The International Peace Garden isn't just a pretty lawn on the US and Canadian border. Other than the lovely flower arrangements, there is a plethora of other things to see and do here. There are a variety of monuments and beautiful structures around the garden, as well as collections of plants from all around the world. You can even camp here! It's gorgeous and an important symbol, and definitely one of North Dakota's gems. We are nicknamed the Peace Garden State, after all!
