Why This One Tiny Town Is North Dakota’s Best Kept Secret
North Dakota is small town central. Throughout its thousands of acres of farms and countryside are little communities that many people know and love. There are tons of great examples of these charming towns, but there are a few that rise to the top as some of the best. Whether they are great because of their location, their attractions, the people in them, or something else, they are simply delightful. Here is one of those small towns that is one of this state’s best:

The population of Harvey is 1,783. It is located in Wells County in central North Dakota. One of its mottos is "Not Just A Place...It's An Experience!" That certainly is true!

The town was founded as a division point of the railroad that was expanding across the state at the time. This is a story many small towns in North Dakota share. The railroad was widely important at the time and without it we probably wouldn't have a lot of the places we know and live in today. The photo shown was taken in the 1940s.

From groceries to hardware, the local bar and restaurants, Harvey has it all. You won't find big box stores and chains here - just home town goodness.

Every good small town has a seasonal ice cream shop, that's just a fact!

Harvey is right by the head waters of the Sheyenne River and is also the gateway to the Lonetree Wildlife Management Area, a beautiful nature refuge.

This super long trail spans from New York all the way to the end at Lake Sakakawea in North Dakota, and Harvey is part of the sights along the way.
