The Native American Burial Site Found In North Dakota Is A Historical Wonder
North Dakota has a history that goes back long before it was ever even known as North Dakota. Hundreds of years ago, early plains woodland people called this area home. Today the remnants of those early residents are scarce, but there are still places you can see and learn about them. One of the best spots in the state to discover this is at a quaint and lovely park that is actually a historical wonder with 12 burial mounds from those people. Take a look:
Medicine Wheel Park in Valley City, North Dakota is quite a historic wonder to see.
As the name would suggest, the centerpiece of the park is the huge medicine wheel. This wheel serves as a calendar and is meant to emulate what the hundreds of original medicine wheels across the Great Plains were used for.
Other than the medicine wheel, you can walk the paths in the park to explore the 12 burial mounds that they wind through. These mounds have been around long before North Dakota was even part of the Dakota Territory a few centuries ago.
Other neat features of this history-filled park include a walkable solar system made from huge stones that will give you an idea of the vastness of our little corner of space. There are also many interpretive signs for everyone who visits to read and learn all about the burial sites, medicine wheel, and more.
Medicine Wheel Park is a fantastic look back into the past and a great place to experience some of North Dakota's rich history. Plus, it's super pretty and peaceful just to visit!
