Leah moved to North Dakota when she was 12 years old and has traveled from the Red River Valley to the badlands and many places in between. She loves small-town life and currently enjoys living on a small farm in the ND prairie. She's always had a passion for writing and has participated in novel writing challenges such as NaNoWriMo multiple times. Her favorite part about this job is recognizing small businesses that deserve a boost and seeing the positive affect her articles can have on their traffic, especially in rural areas that might have otherwise gone overlooked.
A year in North Dakota is packed with awesome festivals and events that center around anything from food to heritage to music and more. However, there is one spectacle in particular that takes place each year you do not want to miss. Make sure to mark your calendars for this one, because you’re in for the experience of a lifetime.
The Medora Hot Air Balloon Rally is a truly magnificent sight that will happen on September 9th-10th this year.
This is a photo taking opportunity of a lifetime and is an entirely free event for everyone. As the balloons rise over the badlands, they'll go wherever the wind takes them and be in the air until 8:00 AM.
Along with the Hot Air Balloon Rally, Medora is also host to the Badlands Kite Fest on the same weekend. You can bring your own kite or watch the dazzling display of professional kite flyers for the rest of the morning and afternoon after the balloons.
Admission to both the hot air balloon and kite events is entirely free for everyone. For more information on the Medora Hot Air Balloon Rally and the Badlands Kite Fest, follow this link.
