You Won’t Want To Pass Up This Old-Fashioned Soda Fountain In North Carolina
Few things feel so much like a trip down memory lane as sitting at the counter of an old-fashioned soda fountain ordering up lunch and Root Beer float, or even just a milkshake or banana split. As if a trip down memory lane can’t get any better, it actually can…
When that nostalgic soda fountain atmosphere is found in the very town the Andy Griffith Show was modeled after!
At Walker's Soda Fountain on Main Street in Mount Airy, North Carolina, a meal, a shake, or dessert isn't like it is anywhere else in the Tar Heel State.
Any visit to Mayberrry USA, officially called Mount Airy, should include a stop at Walker's for, at the very least, a delicious milkshake.
Perhaps it's all of the memorabilia of "The Andy Griffith Show" on display, or the related items for sale at the gift counter. Since its premiere on CBS in 1960 with a subsequent eight seasons, the show has been a fan favorite for decades. (I watched two episodes just the other day!)
If you're not feeling the hamburger vibe on the day you visit, at least grab a sandwich and a malt.
The food here is almost as famous as all of the memorabilia that covers every nook and cranny in the restaurant — so you know you won't leave disappointed, or hungry.
Have you discovered Walker's Soda Fountain in Mount Airy?
Which did you order: the milkshake, an ice cream soda, or the malt?
The traditional old-fashioned soda fountain in North Carolina is becoming a thing of the past but not in Mount Airy, where Walker’s Soda Fountain has been serving Mayberry, err.. Mount Airy, since 1925. And that’s long before the Andy Griffith Show was first aired on CBS. Learn more from their Facebook page here.
