This Video Footage Will Make You Think Twice About Swimming In North Carolina

Taking a cool dip in the ocean on a hot summer day is awesome – but it also comes with a lot of risks. Rip tides, currents, and of course…sharks. Last year alone, North Carolina was home to eight shark attacks. This summer, an 18-year-old male was bitten at Atlantic Beach and an 11-year-old at Fort Macon while surfing. With an astounding number of sharks migrating closer to the shore, even shark researchers got involved. Of course, sharks live in the ocean, it is their home, but when attacks increase at an alarming rate it can make you question if going in the water is even worth it.

Well, if you need more evidence to only go ankle deep…this video will do it for you. It was filmed at Emerald Isle right off Bogue Inlet Pier. As of this summer, Emerald Isle banned shark chumming off the pier until September 15th. But it seems the sharks still really want to call North Carolina home.
