The Place In North CarolinaThat Makes You Feel Like You’ve Stepped Through A Magical Wardrobe
While there are plenty of places in North Carolina that fit the magic wardrobe description, lush, green, mountainous, otherworldly, there are also parts of the state that are just as magical minus the forest aspect. If you remember, Narnia covers plenty of landscapes as well, and one that first came to mind in North Carolina was Shackleford Banks.
Wild horses, turquoise water, white sand, amazing seashells, peace and quiet - you're sure to feel like you've stepped into another world here.
A fifteen minute ferry ride takes you to this enchanting slice of land off the Crystal Coast.
Shackleford Banks is home to over 100 wild horses. The horses are the descendants of mustangs left behind by Spanish explorers. They've learned to survive and adapt to the harsh landscape and, by this point, are quite used to people and won't mind posing for a photo or two.
Away from the beach the landscape is filled with enchanting (and every dense) coastal forests.
There's also plenty of nooks and hideaways for reading a good book or taking a break from the sun.
Kayakers also enjoy the expanse of marshes and sounds surrounding the island. It makes for a unique experience and is great to witness diverse animal and plant life.
It's crazy to think that just a short ferry ride from the mainland can take you to such a unique coastal environment. One that has yet to be graced with modern utilities or necessities, one that remains so wildly uspoilt. While Shackleford Banks is more of a 'wardrobe to the Caribbean,' what makes it so special is that it is its own unique form of North Carolina magic.
Have you visited here before? This truly has to be one of my favorite places in North Carolina!
