Celebrate the Christmas of yesteryear at historic Latta Plantation in Huntersville. 100 years of Christmas takes place November 26th (today) and Christmas by Candlelight happens on Dec. 3rd.
100 years of Christmas features re-enactors giving holiday presentations of the history of Christmas traditions on the plantation. The whole family can enjoy a reading of "The Night Before Christmas" as well as getting a visit from Saint Nicholas himself. It also gets delicious and historic in the kitchen; re-enactors will be cooking a traditional Christmas hen and sweets like gingerbread. There will also be donkey and mules for petting. Children under 5 are free; it's $8 for adults and $7 for seniors.
Christmas by Candlelight recreates the magic of a historic 19th century wedding between Mr. Latta's youngest daughter, Nancy, and Rufus Reid. During this time, holiday weddings were extra special and also extra extensive. Venture through the house to se reenactments in the kitchen and sample the hot cocoa being served. There will be a candlelit path through the plantation grounds, from the enchanting garden to quaint cabins adorned in Christmas decorations. There will be live music, refreshments and also a Christmas movie. This is Yuletide cheer at its finest and such a unique event. Children 5 and under are free, adults are $8 and seniors $7.
When it comes to understanding history, sometimes it’s amazing to experience it firsthand. These unique events allows you to do just that while creating holiday magic and memories. Have you attended either of these celebrations before?
