This Jail In North Carolina Is Actually A Bar And You Need To Visit

The concrete cells that once held all sorts of prisoners captive have been given new life as an upscale cigar and whiskey bar in the small town of Belmont, North Carolina. Only a short drive from Charlotte, the historic Jailhouse offers a one-of-a-kind experience in a truly unique venue.

Gone are the days filled with only cold iron bars and concrete walls, now guests can belly up to a bar and sip on top-shelf liquor, high-end wines and specialty craft cocktails.

Or there's always the option of sitting back and relaxing in a comfortable leather armchair with a nice cigar. But don't worry, the owners made sure they kept enough remnants of the ward that you won't be able to forget you're inside a jail.

The interior now features a walk-in humidor flanked by cedar walls, and an upscale cigar lounge that's reminiscent of a prohibition-era speakeasy.

Bar bites are available from the Old Stone Steakhouse that's located directly in front of the Jailhouse and was once the Belmont Police Department.

The Jailhouse is a private club, but you can join when you visit for an annual $12 fee.

You can find the Jailhouse in the heart of Belmont at 23 S Main Street. It's open Monday through Wednesday from 3 p.m. to 11 p.m., Thursday through Friday 3 p.m. to 1 a.m., and on Sunday from noon to 1 a.m.
