Walk Through 8 Acres Of Rock Formations At North Carolina’s Jump Off Rock Overlook
City parks in North Carolina are anything but boring. From parks that have their own mini-amusement parks to parks filled with historical relevance, the Tar Heel State is home to a variety of city parks worth seeking out – including the Laurel Springs park at Jump Off Rock.
Most visitors arrive at Jump Off Rock, located less than 20 minutes west of Hendersonville, either by accident or after hearing a local recommend the outstanding views of the Blue Ridge Mountains seen from the park.
The overlook affords jaw-dropping scenery in every season. Picnic tables and benches make this the perfect place to relax and soak in the views. of those famous mountain layers found in the Blue Ridge Mountains.
One of the best parts of this eight-acre park is the small trail system that weaves in, around, and through the huge rock formations found beneath the legendary rock.
The park has three trails of varying difficulty. The easiest trail is only a few hundred feet, while the other trails are rated for hikers with moderate experience and are less than a quarter mile each way. It's worth nothing that signs on the property warn that hiking is at your own risk.
But those setting aside enough time (about 90 minutes) to explore these three trails reap the benefits of strolling through towering rock cliffs and boulders the size of enormous buildings.
And while the views of the Blue Ridge Mountains from high atop the legendary Jump Off Rock are spectacular, so are the views from beneath, especially in the winter when the tree limbs are bare.
