Sure, in North Carolina we have the Land of Oz theme park, but with limited openings, and tickets for said openings going faster than we can get them…sometimes we’re seeking other ways to recreate that magic. What is more enchanting than hopping on board and being transported into the world of Oz. Luckily this summer that experience will soon be possible for North Carolinians everywhere.

Beginning July 14 riders on the Great Smoky Mountains Railroad can venture to Oz for a magical two and a half hour train ride.

The journey retells the story of Wizard of Oz. It follows the classic storyline starting in Munchkinland where Dorothy meets Glinda the Good Witch.

Of course, Glinda suggests Dorothy take the Yellow Brick Road in hopes of finding her way home to Kansas. That's when your on-board journey begins. Guests board the train including Dorothy and her notable crew of the Tin Man and Cowardly Lion.

Set to the sounds of the motion picture soundtrack, guests on board are prompted to help Dorothy and her friends defeat the Wicked Witch.

Upon reaching the Emerald City, children will meet The Great and Powerful Oz and receive a gift for helping Dorothy on her journey. Once everyone returns to Munchkinland, the characters on board are available for photo ops.

All trains will depart from Bryson City. You can hop on board to a magical world Friday-Sunday July 14-30 with train ride times at 11:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. there will also be an additional 5:30 p.m. departure on Saturdays.
