There’s so much natural beauty in North Carolina that no one would fault you for overlooking one or two of our hidden gems. Here’s a state park that’s not as well known as some of our more famous spots, but it’s definitely a little gem.
Goose Creek State Park is located in Washington, North Carolina, near Pamlico Sound.
The Palmetto Boardwalk Trail meanders right through a freshwater swamp. The trail starts at the Environmental Education Center, and is just a half mile long.
Take the short .4-mile long Live Oak Trail for a bit of history. You'll find an old cemetery with wooden headstones that dates back to the 1880s along the way.
For a peaceful, quiet experience, visit Goose Creek State Park during the winter months, and put your kayak in the water for an experience that will bring you closer to nature.
