11 Times That Cameras Captured Terrifying Weather Disasters In North Carolina

As people, we can’t help but be fascinated by natural disasters. There are tornado chasers, hurricane surfers, and brave meteorologist who report alongside furious weather. We watch the devastation on TV, or remember it by watching a YouTube video. North Carolina is not shy to natural disasters. As a diverse state, with diverse weather, the extreme weather can range from devastating hurricanes to winter blizzards. In the past years, here are some of the worst storms to ever hit North Carolina.

During the epic six-eight inch snow storm of Feb. 2014, Glenwood Ave. became a scene perfect for dozens of internet memes.

7. The Hurricane claimed 52 lives. The devastating flood waters contributed to this as many people were stranded in their cars and trying to navigate the flooding streets.
8. In 2002, from December 4-5th the worst ice storm to hit North Carolina overtook much of the western and central regions of the state. Thousands were left without power.
9. And in 2009 the "Christmas Ice Storm" ravaged Watauga County.
