There’s so much to brag about when it comes to being from North Carolina. We have it all. Mountains, coast, beautiful scenery. But sure, some other states have that too. So what makes us ‘super special’ and boast-worthy? These 18 things!
We’re aware that these uncertain times are limiting many aspects of life as we all practice social and physical distancing. While we’re continuing to feature destinations that make our state wonderful, we don’t expect or encourage you to go check them out immediately. We believe that supporting local attractions is important now more than ever and we hope our articles inspire your future adventures! 1. An abundance of the best BBQ you'll ever have.
Eastern? Lexington? Whichever you prefer, there's award-winning restaurants and award-winning joints where you can enjoy the best BBQ in the nation.
2. Forever dominating at college basketball.
No other state does college basketball quite like North Carolina. Our rivalries are legendary and our wins are secured.
3. 300 miles of pristine coastline.
From the Northern Outer Banks to Crystal Coast and southern beaches...there's always beautiful blue waters to take a dip in.
4. The magical and enchanting Blue Ridge Mountains.
Beautiful, blue, and pure magic...there's nothing like the Blue Ridge Mountains. Not to mention, we can drive from the mountains to the beach in a mere daytrip.
5. Fall on the Blue Ridge Parkway.
It's easy to see why people travel from around the country to get one glimpse of fall in North Carolina.
6. Big, bustling cities.
With plenty of things to see, skyscrapers, and amazing museums. Not to mention, Charlotte is the second greatest banking city in the nation next to New York City.
7. Enchanting, quaint and historic small towns.
Beautiful small towns, with bustling main streets. Some right on the coast, some tucked away in the mountains. Others found throughout the state. Some even date back to the 1700's.
8. Five star restaurants and delicious hidden joints.
Chef and the Farmer in Kinston has a waitlist spanning for months...but North Carolina is also brimming with amazing mom n' pop style restaurants. You can dine like royalty or dine like an average Joe. Either way, it will be amazing!
9. Being the backdrop for your favorite films and television shows.
Over 400 feature-length films and award-winning TV shows have used North Carolina has the perfect setting.
10. Hundreds and hundreds of enchanting, beautiful waterfalls.
We have so many, we sometimes don't even know where to start with our waterfall bucket list!
11. Being home to the highest peak East of the Mississippi.
Not to mention, Mt. Mitchell makes for some great hiking!
12. And speaking of hiking, an abundance of hiking trails.
It doesn't matter what part of the state you're in...you'll always find a unique, challenging, and beautiful hiking trail to make you one with nature.
13. Being home to America's Castle.
A day spent at the beautiful Biltmore Estate never gets old!
14. An amazing music scene.
We have the highest amount of American Idol Winners. Not to mention the birthplace of Bluegrass. Everywhere in North Carolina, there's music in the air.
15. Beach roamin' horses.
Left behind by Spanish Explorers, the horses learned to survive on the harsh landscape. It's amazing our beaches are also home to wild horses (ponies).
16. First in flight.
The first flight ever happened at Kitty Hawk and changed the world forever.
17. An abundance of inventions.
Krispy Kreme, Texas Pete, Cheerwine, Ctrl+Alt+Del, Pepsi, Vicks VapoRub, overalls....ok, I could go on and on. Needless to say, a lot of life changing inventions have come right from the Tar Heel state.
18. The best types of people you'll ever meet.
Southern, hospitable, welcoming, warm, and filled with state pride! There's nothing like being a North Carolinian.
