If you’re like me and have a sweet tooth, chocolate is something that makes the world go ’round. While many of us flock to the grocery store for a quick purchase, true chocolate connoisseurs can immerse themselves even more in the craft by taking a tour of a chocolate factory. Black Mountain Chocolate, located in the Piedmont, is the perfect place to learn a little bit more of the art that is bean to bar.
Editor’s Note: Sadly, the owners of this lovely establishment have decided to close Black Mountain Chocolate. We will miss this delicious place.
While Black Mountain is indeed a town outside of Asheville, the name, brand, and business comfortably fits right into Winston-Salem's Arts District along Trade Street. Owner Brent Peters purchased the business in 2013 after a long career in banking and legal services. He had found a new interest in the chocolate making and acquired the company (originally based in Black Mountain) after exchanging a few messages with the past owner.
Today a variety of chocolates and chocolate-centric goodies come straight from the Winston-Salem store where they're made. If you can't pop in on a whim, Black Mountain Chocolate bars are retailed throughout North Carolina as well as a variety of other goodies available for online purchase.
While you've probably seen a black mountain chocolate bar or two, the real fun is in learning how they're made by taking a tour of the factory. Black Mountain deems itself as a 'Visible Factory + Kitchen.'
Walking through the front door and getting the amazing sweet whiff of the chocolate in creation helps set the experience in motion. To help you choose which bar to take home, there's plenty of samples to taste.
Aside from samples and chocolate bars, you can indulge in other sweet treats made right in Winston. It's a great place for an afternoon stop or even to plan a group tour for something different to do with friends and family.
Sounds like a delicious tour! Perfect for you or the chocolate lover in your life. For information on the next guided tours or to purchase tickets, click here.
