The Famous Shrimpburgers From Big Oak Drive-In In North Carolina Are As Delicious As They Sound

The next time you’re visiting North Carolina’s Crystal Coast, be sure to add the Big Oak Drive-In to your must-visit list. This tiny, roadside burger stand serves much more than the typical eats found at burger joints – starting with their famous shrimpburgers. This sweet delight is a traditional roll stuffed full of delicious and sweet battered and fried shrimp served in both a regular and a more hearty ‘large’ version.

The Big Oak Drive-In is practically an institution in these parts. Visitors and locals alike flock here on the regular for a taste of a wide variety of seafood burgers found on the menu — including the famous shrimpburger.

It's located only steps from the Bogue Sound and the Atlantic and found roadside between Emerald Isle and Atlantic Beach.

The shrimpburger comes in two sizes. The large shrimpburger (go for it, it only costs one-dollar more than the regular size) is an over-filled roll with fried shrimp and your choice of toppings, including coleslaw, tartar sauce, and/or ketchup.

The regular size shrimpburger is perfect for when you want to have room for sides along with your burger.

The tantalizing menu features a number of seafood burgers, including the clam burger, the oysterburger, and the scallopburger. Pair any of them with a side to complete this awesome lunch.

The drive-in window doesn't have any indoor seating so you can either get it to go or wander around the side of the building to one of the few picnic tables found out back and start devouring the goodness right away.

For those who prefer another tasty meal (besides seafood), the Big Oak also serves traditional burgers and pulled pork BBQ sandwiches.

Add this popular spot to your list of places to eat the next time you're in the area. You can't go wrong — unless you arrive when they're closed. They're typically open Tuesday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. but their website says to be sure to call for hours: (252)247-2588.
