Under North Carolina’s Brown Mountain Lights, the Beast of Blandenboro wanders freely through a magical land where lighthouses compete with stars and kingdoms are only reachable by ferries. It’s an extraordinary Lost Colony as told through lovely botanical gardens, enriching historical sites, winding trails, and majestic mountain ranges with views that make us weep. This scenic state is rife with legends of ghost pirates, haunted roads, and home of the handmade — everything — from donuts to beer and the best cuisine in the world. As a long-time writer and artist, North Carolina leaves me breathless with the gift of endless possibilities. From big city life to rustic living, what inspires me most is the unexpected warmth a winter walk on the beach can bring.

And the best part is enjoying the pretty decorations and mums all over town. With so many choices, the most difficult part is picking which to enjoy first.
Every town has its rich history full of people like us with dreams and desires so strong it is impossible to think death would stop them.
Theodosia Burr Alston, the daughter of Aaron Burr, might be one still lingering around the city. Over 200 years ago one early January, a ship called The Patriot on which she was traveling, sunk off the coast of North Carolina and was never seen again. Alston and the portrait of herself she was bringing to her father went down with the ship.
Only a month apart, it was yellow fever that sadly killed them in 1789.
Another spot with paranormal activity comes from September of 1711, when the Tuscarora launched a sneak attack on the New Bern settlement, leaving more than 100 people dead.
Some of the corpses from that dark morning never left where the Harvey Mansion now stands.
