The 74th Annual North Carolina Rhododendron Festival Features Arts And Crafts, Pageantry, And The Largest Rhododendron Stand In The World

Summer in North Carolina has meant the arrival of the Annual North Carolina Rhododendron Festival for that last 74 years, as folks from all over the Southeast gather in Bakersville to celebrate the rhododendron, a woodsy flowering plant that comes in 1,024 species and is found in many parts of the world, including the highlands of the Appalachian Mountains.

We’re aware that these uncertain times are limiting many aspects of life. While we continue to feature destinations that make our state wonderful, please take proper precautions or add them to your bucket list to see at a later date. If you know of a local business that could use some extra support during these times, please nominate them here: onlyinyourstate.com/nominate

Roan Mountain, and the country’s largest stand of rhododendrons is located about 12 miles from downtown Bakersville. Learn more about the festival from the event’s website, here.
