Can I go for a train ride in New York?

It's not just holiday festivals in New York. See the scenery of the Empire State by heading out on some train rides in New York:

Catskill Mountain Railroad: This train is located in Kingston. In operation since 1982, you can take a scenic ride here year-round. My favorites include the Polar Express and the Fall Foliage Adventure.

Cooperstown & Charlotte Valley Railroad: Head to Milford for this seasonal train that runs from April to December. It was built all the way back in 1869 and a ride on this train will make you feel like you’ve gone back there.

Are there any general stores in New York?

Get a dose of real nostalgia at some of these general stores in New York:

Vidler’s 5 & 10: You’ll find this spot over in East Aurora in Erie County. Opened in 1930, I have no doubt that no matter what it is you are looking for, you’ll find it in this 16,000-square-foot store. From candy to toys to clothing, Vidler’s 5 & 10 has you covered.

St. James General Store: Head to St. James in Suffolk County if you want to visit the oldest general store in the state. Opened in 1857 and on the National Register of Historic Places, you’ll find just about everything here, such as books, home decor, and housewares.

What are the best outdoor adventures in New York?

Immerse yourself in the scenery by participating in some of the best outdoor adventures in New York:

Watkins Glen Gorge Trail: Located in Schuyler County, you have to see this 400-foot-deep gorge to really believe it. Lucky for you, there is a built-in 1.5-mile path around it where you can see all of its beauty easily. It’s one of my favorite spots in New York.

Mount Beacon: Head up this 7.7-mile loop trail to see the spot where a hotel and casino used to exist as well as remains of the incline railway that used to bring guests up and down. And you can also access a 1,610-foot-high fire tower to get some stellar views of the region.
