Being a New Yorker means something different to all of our residents. But when it comes to remembering our favorite reasons for living here and the things that we simply adore? Well, there’s more than a handful of things that we can all agree on. To bask in state pride, take a look at some of the stuff that’s a part of the list below.
1. Our History
No matter which region of our state you visit, you'll find a ton of historic sites and attractions that will completely fascinate you. From our Olympic Ski Jumps to the historic mansions of the Hudson Valley, there's so much history worth diving into in the Empire State.
2. Experiencing All Four Seasons
For many of our residents, a main reason why they love living in New York is because you get to experience all four seasons. New Yorkers get to enjoy warm summer days and beautiful winter wonderlands each and every year when they call the Northeast their home!
3. More Specifically, Fall Foliage
It's hard to pick a favorite when it comes to all four seasons, but experiencing fall foliage in New York is unlike anything you'll experience in other states.
4. Swimming Holes
Forget spending money on a costly backyard pool, real New Yorkers would rather swim in one of Mother Nature's scenic spots. Throughout the state you'll find swimming holes and waterfalls that will cool you off and surround you with insane beauty, better than anything a neighborhood pool could provide you with!
5. Farmers Markets
Waking up in the morning on weekends to scope out the local farmers market is something we always love doing. Not only can you find the most fresh produce here, you'll also be able to find plenty of unique and local products that will allow you to get a taste of the real New York.
While we love to shop at our farmers markets as much as humanly possible, every now and then life requires us to make a run to an actual grocery store. Anyone familiar with New York knows that our residents have a serious love affair with Wegmans, the best and only grocery store worth visiting if you ask us!
7. Maple... Anything
Other states may be a bit more famous for their maple syrup, but here in New York we
in just about everything.
8. St. Patrick's Day
All over New York you'll find our residents getting excited over St. Patrick's Day, but this holiday takes on a whole new meaning specifically out in Central New York. All around places like Syracuse you'll find the streets painted green and even our famous Byrne Dairy turning their milk green for the holiday season!
9. Camping By The Water
Our residents love being by the water in general, but we
really love camping out underneath the stars right by one of our beautiful shores. From the beaches of Long Island to the shores of Lake Ontario, you'll find a variety of dreamy locations that are perfect for setting up camp.
10. The Adirondacks
This one pretty much speaks for itself, there's so much to love about the Adirondacks!
11. Our Mom & Pop Stores
Who needs big-box stores when our charming local shops have long been providing us with all that we could ever need? Friendly service and classic items that have us feeling nostalgic over the good old days are just a couple of the reasons why we'll never stop shopping at our beloved historic locations.
12. The Catskills
New Yorkers are lucky enough to have two major mountain regions that are completely breathtaking. The Catskills offer peace and quiet within a short distance from the Big Apple, the perfect weekend getaway from any of our big city residents.
13. The Finger Lakes
What the Finger Lakes lacks in mountainous regions they make up for with their enchanting bodies of water. All we ask is that you don't try and to make us pick just one of our favorite eleven lakes!
Nearly everywhere you turn in the Empire State you can find a jaw-dropping waterfall that will bring out the explorer in you. With so many waterfalls all around us, we grow up loving these majestic streams.
Remember just a moment ago when we were swooning over the Finger Lakes? Well, one of the many reasons why we enjoy spending time in this region of New York is because it's flooded in great-tasting wine. While this isn't the only region in our state where you can find delicious wine, it certainly is our favorite place to visit.
What better item to pair up with amazing wine than flavorful cheese? New Yorkers even love this dairy treat so much that we have our own
that will leave your taste buds forever thanking you.
17. Diner Food
In New York, every town features an unforgettable diner that you'll wish you could eat every meal at. Now the question is, how many of these memorable restaurants can you manage to cross off of your dining bucket list?
18. State Fairs
If your most epic state fair doesn't feature a mind-blowing butter sculpture then what are you all even celebrating anyways? In New York, we know exactly how to do state fairs.
