New York’s Sheep And Wool Festival Is The Largest Of Its Kind And You Can’t Miss It
Here at Only In New York, we’ve previously spoken about delightful small-town attractions like our state’s massive
yarn barn and even huge quilt shops that you can explore. If any of this sounds up your alley, then you’ll most likely be completely over the moon to hear about the fact that the Empire State hosts a sheep and wool festival during the third weekend of every October! Completely taking over one of our local fairgrounds, see all that comes along with attending the New York State Sheep and Wool Festival.
Originally starting off as a bred ewe sale by local shepherds back around 1980, today you can find the New York Sheep and Wool Festival happening annually on the third weekend of each October.
During this weekend, the Dutches County Fairgrounds near Rhinebeck transforms into one of America's premier fiber festivals.
Each year you can find maps that will help navigate you to all of the festival's amazing attractions and vendors, but before you arrive let us give you a taste of what's to come.
Between October 17th and 20th, visitors of the New York Sheep and Wool Festival will get to check out a variety of fiber-themed workshops and vendors set up in Dutchess County.
An event that's known to intrigue all, you'll find vendors set up with wine tastings, specialty foods, an entire food alley, cider donuts, and even festival artwork contests taking place.
While of course, this wouldn't be the Sheep and Wool Festival that it is today without things like their wool and fleece competitions, llama parade...
...as well as exciting things like knitting and spinning contests, fiber arts contests, fiber arts demonstrations, and more.
Whether you're an expert in the realm of sheep and wool or you're simply a beginner looking to dive into all of the fun, this festival is welcoming to everyone!
With so much space to fill up at the Dutchess County Fairgrounds, you'll be able to check out a little bit of everything here like even Canine Frisbee events and sheepdog demonstrations.
You also can't forget to check out the llama and alpaca displays and petting zoo that's all set up. You'll find animals waiting for you around nearly every corner here!
An amazing source for raw fleece, come check out all the amazing things that you can create with wool, alpaca, mohair, and more at the annual New York State Sheep and Wool Festival in Dutchess County.
