Almost Nobody Knows That Parts Of The Movie Nobody’s Fool Were Filmed In This Tiny New York Town
There’s a great movie called Nobody’s Fool that came out in 1994. It had an all-star cast and it was nominated for quite a few major awards including two Oscars. It was based on the 1933 novel of the same name by Richard Russo. It’s a comedy about a stubborn old man named Donald “Sully” Sullivan who reflects on his independent lifestyle as he begins to realize that relationships with others are important. Maybe you saw it back then, but even if you did, you might not realize that most of it was shot in upstate New York – much of it in Beacon, but in other nearby places, too. Beacon is a great little town in Dutchess County. It's right on the banks of the Hudson River and it ha a population of about 14,000 people.
Bruce Willis played a major part in this movie, right around the time this picture was taken. Around this time, he was making millions appearing in action movies, but he agreed to accept the SAG-AFTRA minimum of $1,400 a week to be in this one!
Jessica Tandy also appeared in this film; it was her last performance before her death. And, you can catch a young Philip Seymour Hoffman in this movie as well!
There were numerous filming locations around the town of Beacon. The town was paid a $40,000 location fee for services and inconveniences during the filming. This home at 33 Cliff Street was the childhood home of the main character, Sully, in the film.
