Montgomery Place is a stunning 19th century estate in New York. The mansion is seasonally open for tours. The 380-acre property has several walking trails that offer beautiful views of the wooded area and nearby Catskills. The property and mansion are now owned by Bard College, which allows public access to the grounds throughout the year from dawn to dusk. This is one of the most interesting and well-preserved of all the Hudson Valley estates.
Approximately 5,000 years ago, Native Americans used this area as a seasonal hunting ground. Many historic artifacts have been uncovered on the property, and archaeological investigations continue to this day.
She lived in the estate and turned the property into a large working farm. The farm transferred hands several times and underwent a massive renovation in 1844. Famed architect Alexander Jackson Davis improved the landscaping and transformed the mansion into a more popular and classic style.
