The Small Town Of Lake Placid In New York Has A Little Bit Of Everything

There are some really great small towns in New York. Checking out these charming areas gives you great opportunities for enjoying unique culture. Many of these towns are full of history. Museums, old battle forts, and more abound in our little towns. And if you’re looking to support adorable local shops or small family-owned cafes, small town New York is the place to do it. Outdoor lovers will be pleased as well: many of the Empire State’s best parks are in small towns. If you’re looking for a small town in New York that combines history, great food, an adorable downtown area, and beautiful surroundings, it doesn’t get much better than Lake Placid.

One of the first things people notice about Lake Placid is how beautiful it is. The city is centered around the gorgeous Mirror Lake.

This 124-acre lake is full of recreational opportunities throughout the year. Canoeing, paddle boarding, and swimming are all popular in the summer. Winter brings ice skating and even dog sledding.
Lake Placid is probably best known for being the only North American city to have hosted two Winter Olympics. Fittingly, it's also home to one of the few Olympic museums in the United States.

The Lake Placid Winter Olympic Museum is located within the Olympic Center, home of the 1932 and 1980 Winter Olympics. The museum has many exhibits and lots of fascinating memorabilia that is sure to entertain sports fans.

That's not all the city has to offer for sports enthusiasts. Take a visit to the Olympic Jumping Complex, where you can watch athletes train on the Olympic ski jumps.

There are fun gondola rides and an amazing zipline for those who are not athletically inclined.

Another museum in the area that is worth a visit is the John Brown Farm State Historic Site. This farm was once the home of abolitionist John Brown.

The farm has tons of information about life in the 19th-century and the abolitionist movement in New York.

Lake Placid's got one of the best small town downtown areas in the Empire State. Main Street is extremely walkable and home to many shops and cafes.
