Floods Are Sweeping Through New York And Are Devastating Parts Of The State

A heartbreaking set of news to report on, over the past several weeks those living out along the shores of Lake Ontario have experienced a tragic amount of flooding. I’ve personally seen many of our readers tag us in beautiful yet heartbreaking posts on our Instagram, capturing just how devastating the views along our southern shores have been as of late. With no expected drop in the lake’s high water levels to come over the next several weeks, residents living out in Rochester all the way up to Sackets Harbor continue to brace themselves and alter their summer plans as they manage the disastrous situation.
Yesterday, areas out in Western New York began to see mind-blowing waves reach ultimate heights along the southern shores of Lake Ontario.
With harsh weather along the shores expected to carry out through Wednesday, residents can expect to see waves reaching up to five feet high along the shores.
A battle our residents have been dealing with since the middle of May, Lake Ontario's high water levels have caused devastation for home and business owners out along the shoreline.
The National Weather Service cancelled the issued Flood Warnings for Niagara, Monroe and Orleans Counties this morning, but the overall State of Emergency for Lake Ontario's shoreline continues to remain in effect.
Lake Ontario's current water hasn't reached levels this high since 1918, breaking historic records and the hearts of those living out in these affected areas.
While many areas all along the shoreline have been affected, this morning Greece in Monroe County woke up to what many are claiming to be the worst flooding the town's ever seen.
Sadly, the lake's high water levels have no near end in sight, with current predictions stating that the levels won't see any signifcant drops over the next several weeks. This week, strong winds are also expected to affect areas out near Monroe County, drastically increasing the lake's levels and creating waves of epic proportions.
