There’s Only One Remaining Howard Johnson’s In All Of New York And You Need To Visit
Here at Only In New York we love talking about nostalgic eateries and Mom & Pop restaurants that we never grow tired of visiting. But something that many of our residents may not realize is that New York is now home to the very last standing Howard Johnson’s! Located right on Route 9 as you’re driving into the village of Lake George, you’ll want to visit this place before it’s gone.
One of the first things you'll see in Lake George, New York's Howard Johnson's is the only one remaining in the world.
The iconic restaurant has been in Lake George since the 1950s, once one of the most popular places to eat in the area.
Known for their famous orange roofs, the Lake George location became the last one standing after the only other open location in Maine closed its doors.
After sitting abandoned for several years, the current owner renovated the place and continues to lease the restaurant and the right to use the HoJo name even though it's technically not apart of the national chain any longer.
Long time New Yorkers may remember that the Empire State one had other HoJo locations in places like Lake Placid and New York City.
Today you can still get all your American classic's at the Lake George location, with favorites like hot dogs and their endless list of Gifford's ice cream.
Another fun fact that you may not have known? Rachel Ray (who's from Glens Falls) worked here when she was a teenager!
Right across from Water Slide World on Route 9, you'll want to visit your favorite last-standing restaurant before it's gone forever.
How to get here: 2143 Route 9 Lake George, NY 12845
