The main stage is the most highly attended venue of the festival due to its size and beauty. Concerts happen here all day, rain or shine. And as you can see, people stick around even when the weather isn't perfect. I've been to many festivals where the weather didn't quite cooperate, but the music always did!

However, don't just look for the action on the main stage. What is great about this New York spring festival is that it is gigantic. Attendees can enjoy free music at another 35 different local venues. Some of these other venues are also outdoors, too!

I love outdoor music myself, but definitely do not discount the indoor music venues. More than 100 different acts perform each year, so you can enjoy all different kinds of music at this festival. Did I mention that this is one of the coolest things to do in New York in the spring?

There is so much to do during spring in New York. One of my favorites is looking for great places to pick flowers in New York:

Waterdrinker Family Farm & Garden: Located in Manorville on Long Island, here, you can roam 15 acres of land and pick your own colorful tulips. You can also visit barn animals and play mini-golf here.

Hudson Wildflower Company: You’ll find this farm in Milton. Spend a few hours putting together your very own wildflower bouquet. You can also peruse the goods at the farm stand and grab a glass of wine.

What are some of the best day trips in New York?

When it comes to things to do in New York in the spring, one of the most enjoyable is taking some day trips in New York:

Sonnenburg Gardens: Head out to Canandaigua in the Finger Lake region for this 50-acre garden. It is open from May to October and showcases more than 10 gardens, including an Italian garden and a rose garden.

Secret Caverns: These caves can be found in Cobleskill. Head underground and take the half-mile route that ends with a waterfall.

Lake Treman Loop: This 4.5-mile loop trail is located in the 811-acre Buttermilk Falls State Park in Ithaca. Take in gorgeous flora like red trillium, foamflower, and mayapple. There’s also a lovely swimming hole at the end!

Tinkers Falls Trails: Head to Labrador Hollow Unique Area in Tully for his .6-mile trail. The star flowers along this trail are painted trilliums. The trail also features a waterfall. Other activities at this spot include paddling and fishing.
