Check Out These 7 Iconic Landmarks In Eastern New York
We recently published a road trip of some of our favorite iconic landmarks in New York. Due to the fact no one (unfortunately!) has time to travel the entire Empire State, we had to keep stops at a manageable number, meaning we needed to focus on just one region of the state. That itinerary was centered around the western part of New York, but there are plenty of fantastic attractions in eastern New York as well. These are a little more spread out, so we didn’t plan a road trip, but they are all certainly worth exploring!
As one of the highest waterfalls in New York, Kaaterskill Falls is a no-brainer for anyone's bucket list. The two cascades total 260 feet in height, and this was actually one of the earliest tourist attractions in the country. This is such a great, peaceful hike with a phenomenal payoff at the end!

The New York Capitol building in Albany is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful state capitols in the country. It has a unique architectural style and bright colors that really make it stand out. Also, it's considered to be one of the most haunted places in New York!

Saratoga Springs is one of our favorite towns in New York, and if you're really looking to experience the city, you'll definitely want to check out the state park there. It's an all-in-one stop that features mineral springs, the Saratoga Performing Arts Center, the National Museum of Dance, and the Saratoga Automobile Museum. It's even home to the first heated pool in the country.

The Five Ponds Wilderness Area is a massive park within the Adirondacks made up of more than 100,000 acres of mostly undeveloped wilderness. There are 58 miles of trails here, so this is an outdoor lover's dream! With 99 bodies of water to check out, there's something for everyone. We love the especially secluded Lows Lake, which is surrounded by campsites.

The Thousand Islands vary in size and number. They straddle the border between the United States and Canada. In order to be considered one of the Thousand Islands, there must be at least one square foot of land above water level year-round, and at least two living trees must be present. Some of the islands are simple piles of rocks, while others span nearly 40 miles in size. There's a lot of really great places to explore in this region. One of our favorites is the little town of Alexandria Bay.

We could've made an entire list of just attractions in New York City, but this colossal statue is one of the most famous landmarks in the nation, so we felt like it definitely deserved a spot on the list. The 305-foot high monument has been listed on countless historic places registers and attracts more than 3-million visitors annually. You can find out more on the National Parks Service website.

Often nicknamed "the Little Grand Canyon of the East," Ausable Chasm is certainly one of the natural wonders of New York. This 500-million-year old chasm is absolutely incredible and measures nearly two miles in length. This place is shockingly gorgeous!
