Taking an in-depth look at more than 170 cities across the United States, WalletHub unveiled their list of the healthiest cities to live in 2020 and here's how Buffalo did.
So, how exactly does this work? Overall, things were tallied up against a 100-point scale system. With WalletHub's in-depth methodology, the site looked at four key dimensions: health care, food, fitness, and green space.
Health Care: 59
The Health Care category is broken down into 25 points, taking a look at individual things like premature-death rates, the percentage of adults who report 14 or more mentally unhealthy days in the past month, the number of mental health counselors, mental health social workers, and substance abuse social workers per capita, and other things like the number of family doctors per capita, cost of medical and dental visits, and the cost of health insurance.

When it comes to determining a city’s health, it’s important to look at what sorts of things you’ll have available to you in terms of food. For WalletHub’s Food category, they looked at specific areas like the number of healthy restaurants per capita (referring to vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free eateries), the number of dietitians and nutritionists per capita, how much access to healthy foods residents have, and even how many people within the city are Google searching for phrases like “healthy food near me,” “health food stores," “healthy dinner ideas,” and other things. Talk about a detailed system!
