Would you believe us if we told you that a trip to the Grand Canyon would only take about one hour to get to from the city of Buffalo? If not, you’re both right and wrong. While the actual Grand Canyon is more than a 30-hour car ride away, you can get to the Grand Canyon of the East much more quickly by heading Southeast from the Queen City to Castile, NY. At Letchworth State Park, you’ll find impressive canyon views and over 66 miles of hiking trails. Let’s explore:
Take a hike! Letchworth boasts more than 22 different hiking trails throughout the park, totaling over 66 miles of land to trek.
Some of the trails at Letchworth get you down to near-ground level, so you can truly experience how impressive this canyon is. Take it all in while you're taking a break: stand amongst the flowing water and look up at the cascading rock walls above.
If you're looking for a more leisurely stroll, many of the trails at Letchworth are extremely well-maintained, with bridges and paved pathways leading the way throughout the park.
With over 22 trails, there are plenty of options for hikers of all experience levels to enjoy the park. You don't even have to lace up your hiking boots if you don't want to. Many of the pathways are smooth enough for sneakers (or even sandals!) during the summer months.
Be sure to stop at the scenic overlooks while you walk for picture-perfect views of the park's waterfalls! Be sure to bring your camera along for the trip. These spots have seen many people "pop the question!"
Just look at this amazing beauty that's basically in our back yard! With so many trails to explore, Letchworth is the perfect hiking spot no matter what your hiking experience is.
Have you hiked the trails at Letchworth before? If not, what are you waiting for? Plan a trip to find out why this beautiful spot was voted the #1 State Park in the nation!
