The saying “No matter where you roam, there’s no place like home” is especially true for Buffalonians. Whether we move just beyond the borders of Western New York or thousands of miles away, Buffalo always calls us back. Read on for 10 reasons why “once a Buffalonian, always a Buffalonian” stands true!
1. Your favorite memories live here.
Whether you spent the summers rowing along the Buffalo River, heading to local farmer's markets with your family on the weekends, or wandering around Martin’s Fantasy Island, Darien Lake, or the Erie County Fair, all of your favorite childhood memories take you back to Buffalo.
2. Comfort food at its finest.
The local food in Buffalo is incomparable, and most of your life has revolved around it! From the Wing Fest to Taste of Buffal to weekends at Broadway Market, Buffalo’s foods are a comforting reminder that there’s no place quite like home.
3. Our teams are here.
Remember that time a famous singer wanted to buy our football team and ship them out of town, but then the Pegula family rushed in to save the day and the city? The Bills and Sabres are our pride and joy, whether or not they deserve our adoration. Our sports give us something to look forward to every year, a reason to celebrate (or commiserate), and show just how committed and loyal our fans truly are.
4. There's always something to do.
Whether you want to explore natural parks and world-known waterfalls, grab a bite to eat from one of our many food trucks or family-owned restaurants, catch a game, brush up on the city's history, or head to the gallery, there’s never a shortage of things to do in Buffalo.
5. It just smells like home...
...or Cheerios, but that's how you know you're back in the greatest city on Earth. There's nothing better than rolling the windows down while driving downtown and catching a whiff of the sweet, oaty aroma that so perfectly smells like Buffalo. It might sound weird to non-Buffalonians, but we'll never be able to eat Cheerios without thinking of home.
6. The City of Good Neighbors – for real.
Whether your friends and family live here or not, we can almost guarantee you will meet at least one smiling face on every corner in Buffalo. We were truly given the name "The City of Good Neighbors" for a reason. Where else would restaurants deliver free meals through your car window while you’re stuck in gridlock traffic during a snowstorm? (Lookin' at you, Winfield's Pub!)
7. There's nothing like Buffalo winters.
Speaking of snow… People say they can handle the cold, but we’ve had several surprise storms that have made us prove it. Several feet of snow overnight? No sweat. We still somehow dig ourselves out to make it to work the next day. Moving away from Buffalo will make you realize that yes – sometimes five months of winter can stink, but at least we are prepared and can handle it like seasoned professionals!
8. The charming small towns.
From East Aurora to Lockport and everywhere in-between, each Buffalo suburb offers its own unique qualities that give Buffalo that down-to-earth vibe with coffee shops, family-owned restaurants, lesser-known places with the best local food, boutiques selling artisan goods, and more.
9. There's always somewhere new to explore.
The Buffalo region offers an extensive list of places to experience. From the Eternal Flame and Maid of the Mist, to a historical tour of a church that housed the underground railroad downtown, the area is full of rich activities that few cities can compare to.
10. Our neighbors are pretty great, too.
Even though we might want to deny it while finding a parking spot at the Galleria during the holidays, we have to admit that it’s pretty neat to live next to another country. A quick car ride across the border brings a whole new world of options for shopping, dining, and sight-seeing.
