“I’m bored,” “Can we do something fun today?,” “Let’s go play outside!” If you’re a parent, these phrases are all too familiar. In your search to occupy your children, look no further than the subject of today’s article: Tifft Nature Preserve! Read on to learn more about the Nature Preserve and the programs they have available for adventurous little ones and families.
Affiliated with the Buffalo Museum of Science, Tifft Nature Preserve is a 264-acre nature refuge with five miles of nature trails and three boardwalks to explore.
Sign up for family and kids' programs to learn more about nature.
The preserve offers regular activities such as fishing and self-guided discovery along the trails, perfect for a family stroll! While access to Tifft is free, self-guided walks are available on Thursdays from 10AM - 12PM for just a $2 donation.
You're welcome to discover all that Tifft has to offer along with your little ones, but if you need some R&R, sign your kids up for Tifft's Discovery Nature Camps!
Not to worry! Tifft has plenty of information available on their website and children as young as three years old are eligible for the "Budding Naturalist" program, where they can discover nature in a hands-on environment.
Along with camps and drop-off programs, Tifft also offers homeschoolers resources to better their lesson plans with their Homeschool Series, where your children can learn more in-depth information about the flora and fauna at the preserve.
If the weather isn't great for trekking outside, head to the Visitor Center for demonstrations by Tifft's knowledgeable staff! The Visitor Center is open Wednesday-Saturday from 10AM to 4PM and Sundays from noon to 4.
The outdoor discovery park is fun for the whole family.
Visitors young and old will all appreciate the experience at Tifft. The nature preserve hosts several events each month for all different age groups. There's even a 21+ event coming up this summer that includes signature cocktails and a scavenger hunt throughout the land!
Along with being a great spot to take the family for the day, Tifft Nature Preserve is also wonderful for personal wellness. Join others for group Wellness Walks and make-and-take workshops to soak in some me-time in Tifft's serene surroundings!
Okay, you can't REALLY dive in (there's no swimming at Tifft), but you can immerse yourself in discovery at this natural Buffalo gem. Whether you're looking for hands-on learning or just a day of outdoor fun, Tifft Nature Preserve is the place to be!
Parent: next time your kids say they’re bored, suggest a family day trip to Tifft and see how they respond! What kid wouldn’t want to learn about bugs and birds while getting their wiggles out outdoors?
