One of the many amazing things about calling the city of Buffalo home is that we’re so close to so many other spectacular destinations. While many people will head up north to visit the city of Niagara Falls to explore America’s oldest state park, you’ll also find other amazing gems tucked away up there like the Aquarium of Niagara that you’ll want to see for yourself. The ultimate family-friendly day trip to take, let’s take a look at what you’ll uncover here.
Only a half-hour drive from us here in Buffalo, the Aquarium of Niagara is one of our favorite places to visit here in Western New York.
Along the way, you'll encounter roughly 200 species of creatures, including a Giant Pacific Octopus, Longnose and Shortnose Gar, Axolotls, sturgeon, Spotted Turtles...
...Jellyfish, African Cichlids, Blacktip Sharks, a Moray eel, and all sorts of aquatic animals that can be found in areas from the Great Lakes out to the coral reefs!
One of the many unique elements of this Niagara Falls attraction is the fact that it's one of only 20 places within the United States and Canada that houses Humboldt penguins - a species that's considered threatened.
Twice each day at the aquarium, you'll be able to check out the Sea Lion Show, the Rescue Harbor Seal Presentation, and a Meet the Expert activity at the Discovery Cart.
If you're ready to really dive into this aquarium, you can book an epic half-hour Animal Encounters where you can choose to get a closer experience with the Humboldt penguins or join the trainers on the beach to enjoy a meet-and-greet with one of the seals.
Just when you thought this place couldn't get any more exciting, we're here to tell you that the Aquarium of Niagara also offers even more hands-on experiences where you can go behind-the-scenes and act as a trainer for the day, preparing fish, meeting rescue animals, visiting with the penguins, receive a t-shirt, photos, and more...
