If you weren’t able to complete last year’s bucket list of places you must visit then have no fear, the new year is here! With plenty to look forward to and many adventures to be planned, it’s time to start brainstorming where exactly you want to explore in New York in 2017. Giving you a little bit of everything, this list will make you want to pack your bags and hit the road!

There are plenty of unforgettable train rides you can take in New York, but there's something about riding along the Arcade & Attica Railroad that will easily take your breath away. The scenic train rides can be taken May through October, with fun holiday rides that you won't want to miss out on during these months.

Reopening for the season in May, The Wild Center is the perfect place to spend a sunny day outdoors in the Adirondacks. The most popular feature of the natural history center is the Wild Walk, a canopy walk that gives you a view of the mountains up amongst the trees all without having to deal with the strenuous work of hiking a mountain. The gradual incline will lead you to swinging bridges and whimsical places like a giant spider's nest that provides a great place for visitors to lounge. Make your way out to the Thousand Islands and you'll be able to soak in all of the romance that exists on Heart Island. While the story behind this castle is heartbreaking, you can still enjoy the fairytale landscapes all while you're surrounded by the beauty of other nearby islands. Only accessible by water, those who plan on taking a visit in 2017 can arrive via their own boat or enjoy a local boat tour to the island.

Along the Hudson River in the town of New Windsor you can stretch your legs at Storm King Art Center, a 500-acre open-air museum that's filled with magnificent pieces of art that will quickly grab your attention. Opening for the season in May, the sculpture park is also a great place to keep in mind during New York's fall foliage!

Up near our tallest mountains, this hike is one that will take you a full day but will be completely worth the unbelievably rewarding views. Right across from the Roaring Brook Falls trailhead, you'll park right off of Route 73 to begin your adventure.

Roughly one hour west of Lake George, there's the perfect glamping location in the Adirondacks. At Camp Orenda, those who are looking to enjoy the outdoors but not completely rough it out will have the luxurious experience of staying in one of their canvas cabins. Away from it all but still leaving you with plenty to do, spoiling yourself with this style of camping is something you have to cross off of your bucket list this year.

The state park is home to some of New York's most unique lakes that don't experience any turnover, meaning that both of the lakes featured in the park are incredibly clear, allowing you to see to the bottom. If you didn't make it over to Spook Hill in 2016, then don't let another year pass without you testing out this strange phenomenon for yourself. The mystery of this place is that if you drive out to Newell Road and place your car in neutral in a specific location on the road, you'll start to roll backwards uphill! While there are many local legends that claim to explain why this unusual occurrence takes place, it's only right that you go and test things out for yourself. Another seasonal adventure to take, Lockport Cave opens back up for tours in the spring. 70-minute guided tours will take you on a trip through the past, bringing you through water tunnels and on one of the country's longest underground boat rides. Just a half-hour ride from Niagara Falls, you'll love diving into the history of the Erie Canal while you take this adventure.
