Most days, it’s just you, the sun, and the ground beneath your feet. It’s always important to bring enough water, tell someone where you’re going and when you expect to be back, and other important things. Out in the Gila Wilderness near Silver City, you'll find a lot of natural beauty of the New Mexico type. Nature-sculpted rocks, shrubs, and reptiles are all part of the experience.
This almost 11-mile trail runs out and back amongst the rocky ground, making for a decently difficult hike. Even with the difficulty, the reward of finishing it is worthwhile because the scenery is simply stunning.
Along the path, small caves and weather-dug areas hide in plain sight. If you pay close enough attention, you can find things that many hikers may miss.
The trail isn't really maintained well, and may be overgrown in areas, so prepare to wear your sturdy shoes. As long as you're careful and aware of the river, things should go smoothly.
