10 Things That Come To Everyone’s Mind When They Think Of New Mexico
If you’re reading this, chances are you already know New Mexico is pretty awesome! This place is truly the Land of Enchantment and it’s always a pleasure to learn when people from other states realize that. Here’s a look at some things people assume when they think of New Mexico.
1. "That’s in the U.S., right?"
Only since 1912! If your friends ask this, you might want to consider getting new friends.
2. Adobe buildings
If there’s any state that is a true icon of the Southwest, New Mexico has to be it. You’ll find plenty of historic buildings all around, many of them made of adobe and decades old.
What else would you expect to see hanging outside an old adobe home than ristras? Perhaps…
4. Luminarias (or farolitos, depending on which you prefer to call them)
These just make the Christmas season magical.
5. Pueblos, abandoned and inhabited
Sure, Arizona has some of these as well but New Mexico is home to a large number of these as well.
6. Hatch green chile
This might be too far down the list but when we think New Mexican food, green chile and all the delicious meals centered around the pepper dominates our minds. Green chile stew, green chile cheeseburgers, green chile sauce on our enchiladas. That list will probably never end.
7. Roswell & aliens
Sure, some New Mexicans think this might be a little over-hyped but it brings in tourists and their tourist dollars, so who are we to complain?
8. Hot air balloons
There’s nothing quite like watching hot air balloons take over the sky during annual balloon festivals.
9. Carlsbad Caverns National Park
This park is home to one of the largest cave chambers in the country, which also happens to be the 28th largest in the world.
10. White Sands National Monument
We see so many photo submissions of this lovely place on our Instagram, account but we’re not complaining! White Sands is simply breathtaking.
This list could certainly go on! We want to hear: what are some other things that come to mind when
you think of New Mexico? Be sure to leave a comment below with your thoughts!
