Things to do and see in New Mexico

What are some fun things to do in New Mexico?

If you can dream it, you can do it. New Mexico is a wonderful place filled with natural beauty, culture, and magic. There are always plenty of unique things to see and do. Here are a few of our favorite fun things to do in New Mexico:

  • Visit the UFO Capital of the World: Roswell, New Mexico is well-known for its strange and mysterious UFO sightings and phenomena. One of the best times to visit Roswell is during the UFO Festival held each July. If you love everything extraterrestrial you'll love a trip to Roswell.
  • Giant Roadrunner Statue, Las Cruces, NM: A 20-foot-tall, 40-foot-long roadrunner sits in the middle of the desert in Las Cruces. It is one of those things in New Mexico you just have to put on your bucket list just to say that you've been there. The statue was created in 1993 by Olin Calk to promote awareness of recycling.
  • Staircase in the Loretto Chapel, Santa Fe, NM: This beautiful marvel of architecture is simply stunning. It is a wooden spiral staircase that has two 360-degree turns without any kind of visible support. If you aren't an architecture nerd, that is something that shouldn't be able to be done - but it exists. Even more amazing and mysterious is the story of its creation.
  • Be amazed by a hot air balloon festival: New Mexico has a number of hot air balloon festivals throughout the year. One of our favorites is the one in Angel Fire. (That's not to say the ones in Albuquerque, White Sands, Elephant Butte, and Taos aren't just as exciting) Imagine hundreds of colorful hot air balloons rising high into the sky. It is truly a sight to behold, even if you never work up the courage to ride one yourself.
