Peñasco, New Mexico is a historic small town in Northern New Mexico, tucked away in the state’s mountainous landscape. It’s one of the most underrated destinations in the state, maybe even the country!

Penasco New Mexico is a small town located in Taos County, NM. If you were to drive the stunning scenic road up to Taos, you’d pass right through town. According to the 2020 census, the population was 648, making it one of the smaller towns in NM. Visit Sugar Nymphs Bistro, one of the best places to eat in Penasco NM.

  • Abiquiu - This small town is outrageously scenic and inspired the painter Georgia O’Keefe. It’s one of the most beautiful parts of this little state.  
  • Pecos – This town is near Santa Fe, and it’s the perfect little southwestern town without the bustle of Santa Fe. It’s home to a beautiful National Park, too!  
  • Capitan – If you’re a fan of the great outdoors, you’ll be a fan of this beautiful little town.
