You’d Never Know One Of The Most Incredible Natural Wonders In New Mexico Is Hiding In This Tiny Park
There’s no doubt that there are so many awe-inspiring natural wonders in New Mexico. Just about everywhere you go around the state, you’ll ooh and aah over the resplendent beauty you encounter. Even the state parks are chockful of gorgeous wonders like canyons, rivers, cliffs, deserts, mountains, and more. There’s even a natural wonder in New Mexico located in one of its smallest state parks. And if you haven’t yet been to Cimarron Canyon State Park to see Palisades Sill, you’re missing out.
Located within the Colin Neblett Wildlife Management Area near Eagle Nest, NM is the tiny 378-acre Cimarron Canyon State Park. It sits at an elevation of 7,867 feet.
This stunning state park is located along the Enchanted Circle Scenic Byway. So, if you're in the mood for a scenic drive, this is one of the best ones you can take.
Found within Cimarron Canyon State Park is the Cimarron River, plenty of hiking and equestrian trails, four campgrounds, and one of the most incredible natural wonders in New Mexico known as the Palisades Sill.
Palisades Sill was formed by igneous rock and cut by the Cimarron River that runs through Cimarron Canyon State Park. The sill towers 300 feet over the surrounding landscape and is a sight to behold.
The sill can be seen from the eastern side of the park. Even though it's along the scenic drive, you'll definitely want to stop and get out of the car to marvel at this natural wonder and take some pictures!
