One Of The Most Unique Towns In America, Cloudcroft Is Perfect For A Day Trip In New Mexico
There are many beautiful cities and small towns in New Mexico that tend to top the list of the perfect day trip or overnight stay locations. However, there is one small town that should be at the top of every must-visit list — Cloudcroft. This small mountain village is not only an outdoor lover’s paradise during the warm months of the year, but in the winter, it offers all types of activities from snowmobiling to ice skating. Cloudcroft is truly one of the most unique towns in America.



After the railroad was completed between Alamogordo, New Mexico and El Paso, Texas, the railroad’s owners sent a survey party to explore the area east of Alamogordo. They found the beautiful wilderness that is present-day Cloudcroft. They named the area Cloudcroft as the word is an English description meaning "a clearing covered in clouds."




This trail will take you to the frequently-photographed trestle bridge that was built in 1899 for the Alamogordo and Sacramento Mountain Railway. This bridge is 323 feet across and is on the National Register of Historic Places.

This loop trail is only 2.2-miles and is a beautiful and easy hike in New Mexico. You’ll enjoy lots of shade, gorgeous views, and a well-maintained trail. You can learn more about the Osha Trail here.

Ski Cloudcroft features a base elevation of 8,400 feet and a top elevation of 9,100 feet. There are 25 ski trails and three ski lifts, so there is something for everyone regardless of your experience and skill level. Learn more about Ski Cloudcroft here.
