While hiking in the Land of Enchantment is plentiful, the best views are always at the end of the hardest hikes. This particular hike in the Cibola National Forest will take some effort, though anyone who is moderately skilled should be able to take on the challenge. Lace up your boots, pack some water, and get ready to take on a challenging hike that has the most incredible payoff at the end. Once you finish this hike, you’ll have lost your breath from the views alone.

Welcome to Cienega Trail #148 in the Cibola National Forest, near Sandia Peak. If you head east from Albuquerque, this trail is only a short drive within the Sandia Mountain Wilderness.

The word "Cienega" is Spanish for 'wet meadow,' and this hike is full of lush meadows and flowers to view throughout. Spring and Fall are the best time to see the wildflowers.
