Medford Is A Small Town In New Jersey That Offers Plenty Of Peace And Quiet
Are you looking for a new town to visit for a day trip in New Jersey? Medford is one of the most underrated small towns in the state, and you’ll find plenty of peace and quiet – plus a whole lot of delicious dining options. It makes for a great spot to spend some time when you’re out exploring the Garden State!
During these uncertain times, please keep safety in mind and consider adding destinations to your bucket list to visit at a later date.
You'll find Medford in the heart of Burlington County. This sleepy town was once a farm community and still holds on to its rural roots, despite being located near one of the busiest highways in the state.
Unlike the neighboring towns of Marlton and Mt. Laurel, Medford has seemingly escaped overdevelopment and still maintains a quiet country feel to this day.
The town is packed with historic sites, and the Medford Historical Society maintains them.
A visit to Kirby's Mill, which dates back to 1778, is sure to make you feel like you're stepping back in time.
Kirby's Mill, 279 Church Rd, Medford, NJ 08055, USA
Speaking of stepping... you can get your steps in at the town's largest park, Freedom Park. One section is a dedicated "bark park", where dogs can run around off leash, playing together and splashing in the creek.
Freedom Park, 86 Union St, Medford, NJ 08055, USA
If you want a taste of the farm life, visit Johnson's Corner Farm.
Johnson's Corner Farm, 133 Church Rd, Medford, NJ 08055, USA
The farm hosts all sorts of seasonal activities, like strawberry picking in the summer and pumpkin picking in the fall.
There are also plenty of activities on the farm for children, like a corn maze and a playground, and the farm store sells homemade goodies and gourmet foods, too!
For a quieter experience, visit Forgotten Angels Equine Rescue. The rescue is open to the public by appointment only, but they host events year-round and they are always looking for volunteers!
Forgotten Angels Equine Rescue, 288 Hartford Rd, Medford, NJ 08055, USA
FAER is the only horse rescue in the county, and over the years, they have saved hundreds of horses, ponies, and donkeys. Many of the rescued horses have gone on to become show horses or faithful companions.
Keep an eye on their event calendar and you can sign up for Yoga with Horses or perhaps even meet Snowflake and Stanley, their mascot miniature horses.
No small town is complete without great places to eat, and if you visit Medford, you're in luck!
Main Street Medford has so many great restaurants that it's hard to choose!
The Pop Shop is a bright and cheery retro spot in a former bank. It's a kid-friendly place to grab breakfast or stop in for a grilled cheese and milkshake for lunch.
The Pop Shop Medford, 1 S Main St, Medford, NJ 08055, USA
If you head south of town towards Medford Lakes, you'll find PJ Whelihans.
Whelihans is a local chain with a few locations in south Jersey, and they're known for their mouthwatering wings.
P.J. Whelihan's Pub + Restaurant - Medford Lakes, 61 Stokes Rd, Medford Lakes, NJ 08055, USA
