This Unique New Jersey Campground Is Also An Observatory So You Can Stargaze During Your Stay
New Jersey’s state forests and parks are beautiful places worth exploring! Get out to Blairstown to find one of the more remote mountains, Jenny Jump Mountain, and explore the trails that take you to the summit and ridgeline. While you’re here – stay a while! There’s a lovely campground just steps away from an observatory, so you can enjoy some of the darkest skies in New Jersey, too.
Jenny Jump State Forest is one of the most beautiful preserves in New Jersey. With miles of trails that climb to the top and run along a ridgeline, you'll find incredible views and scenery here.
The park and forest are famous for the views of the Delaware Water Gap. Located just a few miles away from the National Recreation Area in Blairstown, this makes it easy to explore Jenny Jump and the Water Gap in the same visit, if you're up for it!
Jenny Jump State Forest is home to one of the best campgrounds in New Jersey. There are tent sites and cabins, so whether you prefer to rough it or glamp in style, you'll have your choice!
No matter which site you choose, you'll have all the amenities you need. Each spot has its own fire ring, grill, and picnic table, and the tent sites are secluded and shady.
Jenny Jump Mountain is known for being a high bear activity area, so if you're camping or hiking, be sure to take precautions like property storing food and making noise as you hike along in a group. Black bears are timid creatures and won't bother you if they can help it, but you still don't want to startle them or feed them!
Along with having some of the best scenery around, Jenny Jump offers some of the darkest skies in New Jersey. Perhaps that's why the United Astronomy Clubs of NJ has an observatory right at the top!
The Observatory is just a few steps away from the campground, and they often host public stargazing and astronomy events to teach you all about the stars and the universe.
If you're looking for a great place to stay and a spot where you can stargaze and stare off into galaxies far, far, away, make a reservation to camp at Jenny Jump State Forest in New Jersey!
