The Little Town In New Jersey That Might Just Be The Most Unique Town In The World
There are so many unique small towns in the world, it’s nearly impossible to choose just one for the designation of “most unique.” New Jersey alone has a handful of one-of-a-kind spots, but Ocean Grove stands out.

It was founded as the site of a Christian summer camp. The land is still owned by the church and leased to homeowners and businesses. Ocean Grove is the longest-active camp meeting site in the United States.

All of Ocean Grove is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Ocean Grove is home to the largest collection of authentic Victorian architecture in the nation.

The auditorium's pipe organ is one of the largest in the world.

Other historic figures who spoke or summered in Ocean Grove include James Garfield, William McKinley, Teddy Roosevelt, Woodrow Wilson and Richard Nixon.

With the stunning architecture, sea views and park-like median, it's no surprise.

While visiting, stay at a gem like the Majestic or dine at SeaGrass. Stop for ice cream at Nagles.

Over 100 tents surround the Great Auditorium in summer months. This is a century-old tradition with some residents having vacationed in Ocean Grove for decades. There's currently a waiting list for a seasonal rental. The season runs from 5/15-9/15 and the cost can run around $5,000. These makeshift homes are typically comprised of two parts, a canvas tent for living and a wooden cottage for sleeping and dining. No pets, beer cans or wine glasses are allowed. All prospective tenants must pass a screening process and be interviewed.
With its rich history, charming architecture and summertime tent city, Ocean Grove is certainly unique. For other unique places in New Jersey, check out these date ideas and these restaurants.
