Discover A Little-Known Natural Wonder In New Jersey On The 1.6-Mile Tillman Ravine Trail

Tucked away in the hemlock forests of Branchville, New Jersey, is a short, sweet hike with a waterfall finish. That’s right; we said waterfall! The Tillman Ravine Trail in the Flatbrook Fish and Wildlife Management Area is a stunning 1.6-mile jaunt through nature. Not only will you walk along the ravine, past the cascading creek, and over wooden footbridges, but you’ll also be able to see up close a little-known natural wonder in New Jersey that is as magical as it sounds.

Located within the Flatbrook Fish and Wildlife Management Area, the Tillman Ravine Trail is a 1.6-mile out-and-back with some seriously incredible views.

Widely considered to be an easy route, this trail often takes visitors less than an hour to complete, and the elevation change stays around 275 feet.

This is an incredibly popular hike for solo hikers, visitors looking for an easy walk through nature, or bird lovers!

But the true highlight of the trail is Tillman Ravine, featuring rushing water and loads of vibrant, mossy rocks and hemlock trees.

It’s no surprise that with a waterfall feature on this trail, the best time to visit usually falls between March and October when the cascades are full and the water is warm.

Many hikers have described this trail as enchanting, almost right out of a storybook in some cases, with upturned roots, singing birds, and a beautiful ravine of water.

Keep your eyes peeled for the various wildlife that calls this home. Because the area is so damp in the forest, you may find moisture-loving newts nearby!
