You’ll Never Forget A Trip To This One Of A Kind Fish Market In New Jersey
Where can you turn a trip to the fish market into a full day of fun? Cassidy’s Fish Market in Barnegat Light. Besides offering fresh, flavorful fish, it’s in the most incredible location.
Cassidy's Fish Market is definitely one of the best fish markets along the Jersey Shore.
Reviewers rave that the fish here is some of the freshest around. The majority of the fish are sourced locally, like Tuna, Swordfish, Mahi, Wahoo, Mako Shark, Thresher Shark, Bluefish, Weakfish, Flounder, Fluke, Spanish Mackeral, Cobia, Tilefish, Grouper, Sea Bass, Little Necks, Top Necks, Oysters, and Scallops.
The scallops are a fan favorite - you have to try them. You'll also find fish hand selected from other areas including Wild and Farmed Salmon, Tilapia, Codfish, Steamers, Mussels, Softshell Crabs, Lobsters, Red Sanpper, Chilean Sea Bass, Lobster Tails, fresh and frozen Shrimp, King and Snow Crab.
Perhaps the best part of a visit to Cassidy's is its location.
Viking Village was founded in the 1920s by first generation Scandinavian fisherman. It currently serves as home port to more than 40 independently-owned fishing vessels. Every year, about 5 million pounds of seafood is packed and shipped both locally and around the world. On summer Fridays, they offer one of a kind dock tours. There's also a scallop and seafood festival held each June.
But Viking Village isn't only for fishermen (and women).
Many of the old fishing shacks have been converted into shops and restaurants. Each boutique is incredibly charming and there's really something for everyone to enjoy. Viking Outfitters offers clothing and fishing gear, Sugar Shack supplies patrons with sweets and treats, The Seawife has a selection of antique and modern home goods and Wink offers women's clothing.
These stores are only just a sample of what you'll find. It's definitely a haven for home decor and gifts. If you're looking to dine, head to Off The Hook for prepared seafood or How You Brewin' for coffee, baked goods and ice cream. If you're looking to do more than shop and eat, head to Swell Colors for art exhibits and crafting classes.
One visit to Cassidy’s and you’ll be hooked. Where else can you enjoy a full day of fun and then pick up the catch of the day to take home for dinner? For more unique places in New Jersey, check out this
