You May Not Want To Swim At These 34 New Jersey Beaches Due To A Dangerous Discovery
Over 30 beaches in New Jersey have just tested positive for high levels of harmful bacteria.
According to the state Department of Environmental Protection, weekly recreational beach water quality monitoring has shown that the water at multiple beaches is showing elevated levels of a bacteria called Enterococci. This bacteria is normally found in animal and human waste. After routine testing was performed at over 210 sites this past week, officials reported that 31 beaches are to be placed under advisory and four are to be closed until further notice.
At the time of publication, four Ocean County beaches have been closed to the public due to unsafe levels of bacteria.
- Beachwood Beach West, Beachwood Borough
- Summit Beach, Island Heights Borough
- West Beach Avon Road, Pine Beach Borough
- Jennifer Beach, Stafford Township
The beaches below have received an advisory notice. This means that the public should be aware that swimming at these places may expose you to bacteria levels that are higher than the accepted state standard.
